Mayo group shortlisted for Good Causes accolade

Mayo-based project Foróige Connect has been short-listed for one of the National Lottery’s Good Causes awards.

The group is made up of five youth workers who work with young people who are at risk of going into foster care or who are in foster care and are at risk of going into residential care.

Good Causes funding allowed them to provide a holistic six-day programme to meet the needs of a specific group of young people who presented with extremely challenging behaviour and were resistant to many supports being offered to them.

At the end of the programme, the young people developed their ability to understand, communicate and regulate their emotions and feelings.

The National Lottery’s Good Causes Awards celebrate and honour the inspirational work carried out by hundreds of volunteers, coaches, care givers and other individuals across Ireland, and the organisations they represent.

The work these people do is phenomenal and has a real and meaningful impact on the communities and causes they so selflessly support.

The winners will be announced at a gala awards dinner in autumn.
