Extensive works on troublesome water mains in Mayo town underway

AN elected representative of Mayo County Council has welcomed news that extensive works are underway on replacing a troublesome cast iron water mains in his area.

Councillor Neil Cruise said that Source Civils, Sligo, will commence works on the replacement of cast iron water mains in two locations in Foxford, which are:

Dispensary Road, Foxford from the junction of Dispensary Road with the N26 as far as Annie Bourkes residence. The works commenced yesterday (Tuesday) and are estimated to take two and a half weeks to complete.

Replacement of a section of the primary water mains (feeding Foxford Town and wider areas of Belass), on Swinford Road from Sliabh na Gréine estate as far as the Grotto and up the Reservoir Road for 50 metres. The works will be completed after Dispensary Road and are estimated to take four and a half weeks to complete.

“These works represent a very substantial investment by Irish Water in further securing our water infrastructure here in Foxford,” said the councillor.

“I wish to acknowledge the help and advice from my colleagues. In addition, I have received great counsel from management and technical staff (especially in the water section) in both Irish Water and Mayo County Council.”
