Westport mourns passing of Percival Alay-Ay

A MAN who was synonymous with hospitality in Westport, many tributes have been paid following the death of Percival Alay-Ay.

A popular figure with locals and visitors to the town alike, he is being remembered for his warmth, kindness and for being an absolute gentleman in the community and during his work with the Westport Hotel Group, which operates the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport Plaza Hotel and Westport Coast Hotel.

The following tribute was paid by the group across its social media: 'We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of our dear friend and colleague Percival Alay-Ay.

'Percy worked as a restaurant manager at the Westport Coast Hotel for many years and is widely known in the Westport community.

'In the last few years Percy moved to the Westport Plaza Hotel where he brought a smile to everyone that crossed his path. He also held afternoon classes for our golden years guests where he gave them tips and advice on gardening, one of his many talents.

'Percy will be sadly missed by all of us at the Westport Hotel Group and the wider Westport community.

'Forever in our hearts. Rest in peace Percy.'
