Two rescue call-outs on Croagh Patrick

MAYO Mountain Rescue have responded to two call-outs on Croagh Patrick this week.

Yesterday (Thursday) they were tasked by the National Ambulance Service to assist a woman with a lower limb injury below the shoulder of the mountain. Three members assessed the casualty, splinted her injury, and treated her pain, as well as treating her for mild hypothermia.

When the stretcher party arrived, she was carried off and handed over to the crew of the waiting ambulance.

The team, who were stood down at 8 p.m., have thanked the ambulance crew and bystanders who helped.

On Tuesday evening, shortly after 5 p.m., the team assisted an elderly male climber suffering from exhaustion near the shoulder of Croagh Patrick.

A first response team had already been deployed who reached the man quickly. He was assessed and found to be too fatigued to descend safely, and was carried off on a stretcher.

Details of both missions were posted on the Mayo Mountain Rescue Team Facebook page.
