Applications open for vacant Mayo senior hurling manager's position

Mayo GAA has announced that expressions of interest are now sought to fill the vacant senior hurling team manager's position. The closing date for submission of candidates is Wednesday, August 31, at 6 p.m.

Once names are submitted, candidates will receive an application form which must be completed and returned to the secretary.

All candidates must confirm in writing/email to the secretary at secretary.mayo@gaa.ie that they are allowing their names to be nominated.

Former manager Derek Walsh recently informed the Mayo GAA County Board that he was not seeking another year at the helm and would be stepping down with immediate effect.

Initially appointed in 2018 on a three-year contract, his tenure saw Mayo win the Allianz National Hurling League Division 2B title against Down that year, while in 2021 he guided Mayo to the Nicky Rackard Cup title with victory over Tyrone in Croke Park.

His contract was extended for a further two years last year and Derek once again got Mayo back to GAA headquarters, this time for the Christy Ring Cup final against Kildare. The defeat to a very strong Lilywhites team proved to be his final game in charge of the team.
