Calvary at Mayo cemetery restored by Legion of Mary

The senior presidium members of the Legion of Mary have undertaken the cleaning and restoration of the Calvary in the New Cemetery, Castlebar, as part of the work undertaken by the organisation.

Due to the pandemic, house to house visitations, as well as hospital and nursing home visitations, have been cancelled.

This work is due to recommence in the near future.

The presidium has also been working for many months to have the plot location boards erected in the three town cemeteries - Old Cemetery, New Cemetery and Protestant Cemetery at Stephen Garvey Road.

The completion of this work will be finalised shortly.

In respect of the restoration work at the New Cemetery, the presidium wish to acknowledge the donation of paint by Albany, Castlebar, with Karen's help, for the Calvary colours; the use of a powerhose and equipment by Fidelis Rice of Tom Rice Limited, Moneen, Castlebar, and the generous donation of two seats for use for people visiting the cemetery by John and Sheila Murray, Glenisland, Castlebar. John is a former member of the junior regionary.

The presidium welcomes new members to help with new projects. Contact (085) 1676438 or (087) 7813119 for further details.
