Go-ahead sought for Mayo pay-to-use waste compactor

A planning application has been lodged with Mayo County Council for the placement of a pay-to-use portable waste compactor in Castlebar.

The facility, to be located at the rear of Keegan's Centra, Station Road, is for residual and food waste as well as mixed dry recyclables.

The application has been submitted by BIGbin Waste Tech Limited.

The company has described the compactor as "cheaper that civic amenity sites and the best weapon in Ireland right now against illegal dumping."
