Vandalism at Mayo's Butterfly Garden was such a shame

by Observer

SOME things hurt to the bone.

A beautiful Butterfly Garden was built in Swinford.

The idea behind the garden is that parents who have lost young children can go along to the garden, relax and commune in their own way with their loved ones.

In the past, when I was a young boy, it seemed to me that quite a number of children died at an early age.

Medical facilities weren’t as advanced in those years as they are now.

My parents lost two children when they were very young.

I am sure they would have wished there was some little place to go to, a quiet spot where they could stop for a while and recall happy moments.

The Butterfly Garden in Swinford is such a place, a serene spot, tucked away on its own, free from the cares of everyday life.

Sadly the garden has been vandalised.

Such a shame.

Such a pity.

I’ll leave it at that.
