Plans for east Mayo river walk before council for approval

PLANS for a new river walk in Charlestown will come before local councillors for approval this week.

Mayo County Council propose to construct a river walk as a pedestrian and cycle route along the Mullaghanoe River in the townland of Lowpark.

The route is 500 metres long and will start at the open air swimming pool, heading southwest along the Mullaghanoe River and turning north after the ring fort to link up with a proposed walkway in Charlestown GAA grounds.

Members of the public were invited to make submissions on the proposed project, with none received.

It is on the agenda for the monthly Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) when elected members will be asked to consider a report and approve the project to proceed.
