Delivery of new Ballina primary school moves step closer

THE construction of a new school campus at Scoil Íosa Primary School in Ballina has moved a step closer with the project recently moving to Stage 2b Detailed Design.

The news has been confirmed and welcomed by Minister of State Dara Calleary.

“The proposed new school build at Scoil Íosa, Ballina, has progressed in recent weeks to Stage 2b. This involves detailed design and the submission of a planning application to Mayo County Council.

“I am very pleased to confirm that the application has now been submitted to the local authority,” he said.

“Following on the back of developments at St. Mary’s Secondary School (open) and Culleens National School (construction on-site), this will be another very significant project and investment in education in Ballina.

“The proposed works involves the completion demolition of all existing buildings on the site of the school and the construction of a new two-storey school with a total floor area of 2,786 sq metres incorporating 13 classrooms, SEN base, general purpose hall and ancillary accommodation. The project will also include set-down and parking provision, soft and hard play areas, sensory garden and landscaping.

“I look forward to planning permission being granted and will be continuing to work closely with school principal Mr. Tunney and his board of management to bring the project to fruition as quickly as possible,” said Minister Calleary.
