Castlebar mourns passing of McHale Road resident Breege Halligan

The death occurred peacefully in the Ross Suite, Sacred Heart Hospital, Castlebar of Breege Halligan (née Corrigan), of 7 McHale Road, Castlebar and formerly of Enaghbeg, Crossmolina.

Breege was an active member of the Western Care Association for many years. She was the head chef in the restaurant in Davitt House and she had also worked in the Sacred Heart Hospital. She also worked in the community as a home help.

She was well respected and loved by all those she came into contact with during her life.

Breege had many interests including dancing and reading, especially romance novels. She was a talented singer but her greatest love was always her family to whom she dedicated her life.

Dearly loved wife of the late Marty, she was also predeceased by her parents Brian and Margaret (née Igoe) Corrigan, her brothers Paddy, Bernard and Johnny, her sisters Janie Foster, Mary McElroy and Angela Breslin and her beloved grandchild Karen Moran.

She will be sadly missed by her sons Brian, Joe and Martin, her daughters June Halligan and Virginia Moran, her sisters Pauline Browne, (Massbrook, Bofeenaun, Ballina), Peggy Carden (Manchester) and Teresa Walsh (Manchester), her 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, her son-in-law Martin Moran, daughters-in-law Honor, Carol and Caroline, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Reposing in Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar on Tuesday from 5 p.m. with removal at 7 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar. Funeral Mass at 11.30 a.m. on Wednesday and afterwards Breege will be laid to rest with her beloved Marty in the New Cemetery, Newport Road, Castlebar.
