€99,250 CLÁR funding for four Mayo community groups

FOUR community groups in Mayo have received a funding boost thanks to the CLÁR Programme from the Department of Rural and Community Development.

The monies - €99,250 in total - will be used to develop infrastructure for the benefit of the local community generally, Deputy Michael Ring has confirmed.

The successful groups are:

Ballinrobe Walkway Project - development of fencing around the green area of Ballinrobe Town Park (€29,500).

Crossmolina Community Council - to develop a community cinema in the Crossmolina Civic Arts Centre for use by all age groups (€11,250).

Carnacon Community Development - carry out upgrade works on the community centre - gutters, water harvesting (€9,000).

Swinford Amenity Development CLG - provide a permanent sealed surface, drainage and road markings to the existing carpark at Swinford Amenity Park (€49,500).

Commented Deputy Ring: “CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanais) is a targeted investment programme for rural areas that aims to provide funding for small infrastructural projects in rural areas that have experienced significant levels of de-population. This targeted investment can reap huge rewards for communities.”

In a statement, Deputy Alan Dillon said he is very pleased that these very worthwhile projects in Mayo have been funded under the CLÁR Measure 1 programme which supports the development of facilities and amenities within rural areas.

“The CLÁR Programme in Mayo has been very beneficial and demonstrates that investment in rural communities can make a big difference to improving the quality of life for the people who live in these communities," he added.

Councillor Cyril Burke has welcomed the funding allocated to Carnacon Community Development.

Said Senator Lisa Chambers: “These projects are hugely important to our local communities. It is important that as a government we continue to invest in rural Ireland in as many ways as possible. The Clár programme is a fantastic way that we can continue to do this."
