Emergency services at scene of serious incident on Mayo railway line

Railway services remain suspended between Westport and Castlebar due to a serious incident being attended by the emergency services.

A man was struck by a train in the Knockaphunta area of Castlebar. No other details are available.

Irish Rail first reported the incident on its Twitter feed at 8.45 a.m. this morning.

Services will remain suspended until further notice, according to the company's latest update around 10.15 a.m.

Bus transfers are to operate between Westport and Claremorris and Ballina and Ballyhaunis.

The Westport to Heuston service will now operate from Claremorris, approximately 35 minutes delayed.
