Mayo ratepayers unhappy with unkempt state of their street

Ratepayers along a busy section of Hopkins Road in Castlebar are unhappy with the untidy appearance of their street.

They have called for action by Mayo County Council in cleaning up the area after years of neglect.

Cigarrette bins not properly disposed of at the litter bins.

The litter bins are unsightly with cigarette butts not properly discarded, litter has built up around the base of the trees, one of which has been vandalised, while the street furniture is badly in need of a power-spray.

An angry shop employee said: "Just a few yards away Market Square is kept in pristine condition, yet our street is totally neglected.

The street furniture has a dirty appearance after years of neglect.

"We don't like complaining but we have lost our patience. It has been left fall into decline for too long.

"The reality is that our street needs a complete facelift, to be honest, and we appeal to our local councillors to highlight the matter and ensure action is taken."
