Minister officially opens two new school extensions during Mayo visit
The Minister for Education Norma Foley has performed the official opening of the new extension at St. Tiernan's College, Crossmolina.
During her visit to Mayo today, she congratulated the principal, Ms. O'Malley, her staff, the students, school community and Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education and Training Board for a magnificent job.
She said she was honoured to perform the opening and was "blown away by the choir, the dancing and the fantastic welcome" she received.
Local TD and Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation Dara Calleary joined in the congratulations and extended deep appreciation to Minister Foley for performing the official unveiling ceremony.
Prior to her Crossmolina visit, she visited the newly-opened St. Mary's Secondary School in Ballina.
She paid tribute to the management, staff, students and entire school community and wished them many years of happy learning in their new surroundings, view echoed by Minister Calleary.
Minister Foley thanked Caitlin and Amelia for the guided tour of the wonderful facility.
Minister Foley and Minister of State Calleary planted a tree on the school grounds during their visit to St. Mary's Secondary School.
During her time in Ballina, the minister performed the official opening of the new extension at Oliver Plunkett National School in the town.
She stated: "Sincere thanks to the school community for the generous welcome and engaging questions."
The minister also paid visits to Educate Together Primary School in Castlebar and Davitt College in Castlebar.
She twitted about her visit to Educate Together N.S. in the company of Deputy Alan Dillon and Senator Lisa Chambers.
She thanked the school for the welcome, the music and "the fantastic questions."
The minister was also welcomed to Castlebar by local Fianna Fáil councillor Al McDonnell, Blackie Gavin and Martin McLoughlin.
Davitt College is seeking planning permission for major extension, costing over €8.2 million, which will result in the provision of 12 mainstream classrooms and four specialist rooms.
When completed, the facility will be able to cater for over 1,000 students.
