East Mayo river walk plans are set to proceed

PLANS for a new river walk in Charlestown were approved at a Claremorris/Municipal District meeting.

The pedestrian and cycle route along the Mullaghanoe River in Lowpark is 500 metres long and will run from the swimming pool, along the river, turning after the ring fort to link up with a proposed walkway in Charlestown GAA grounds.

Among those to welcome the new amenity was the local athletics club, East Mayo AC, who posted on their social media: 'Well done to our local development committee who are driving this project.

'The proposed route will tie in nicely with our 200m running track development which we will break ground on next spring.

'Over the past three years, we've seen the positive impact that walking, jogging and running has had on our members and the wider community and we look forward to having safe and well lit facilities for all to enjoy.

'Connecting three clubs and local schools, we'll have a nice little sports hub in the heart of east Mayo.'
