South Mayo flooding concern prompts drainage call

An elected representative has submitted a notice of motion calling on Mayo County Council to include roadside drainage at Frenchgrove, Hollymount, in next year's road works programme.

There is flooding in the area when there is excess rain, Councillor Patsy O'Brien explained, which impacts farm lands, and he hoped the council can move forward with works to address the situation.

In a response to his motion, he was told: "The location has been assessed with no significant risk to flooding of the public road.

"A road crossing with intake and outfall headwalls are required to alleviate flooding.

"In addition, downstream drain clearance would be necessary, with landowner agreement required."
