Mayo gardaí probing new house damaged by mystery fire

Gardai are investigating a fire which badly damaged a newly constructed house in the Ballina area late on Monday night and early yesterday morning.

The property was unoccupied at the time.

The roof and upstairs portion of the property were significantly damaged.

A passing motorist shared to social media dramatic footage of the flames as they devoured the roof of the building.

Several units of Mayo Fire Brigade fought the outbreak before bringing the flames under control.

Garda forensic crime investigators have been combing the property in recent days in order to try and determine the cause of the outbreak.
