Breakthrough revealed in Mayo development plan impasse

A breakthrough has been achieved in the completion of the new Mayo county development plan.

An impasse over the construction of housing on rural sites close to national primary and secondary routes is close to resolution.

Talks have been ongoing between Mayo County Council, the Minister of State at the Department of Local Government, Peter Burke, and officials of the Office of the Planning Regulator.

Councillor Al McDonnell has revealed that very important progress has been made in finalising the dossier which is essential to planning the course of the county’s future development.

The Moorehall-based representative said some of the red-line issues have been addressed in a manner favourable to Mayo.

“I welcome the input of our management team and planners in respect of this matter.

"It’s the first time we have all been singing from the same hymn sheet when it comes to protecting our rural communities,” he added.
