Golf event in memory of Myles to raise funds for Mayo's Daisy Lodge

Trends Golf Society's annual fundraiser takes place in Galway Golf Club on Friday, October 14.

One of the main organisers is Brian Higginbotham, wife of Lisa Chambers Higginbotham, eldest daughter of Frank and Phil Chambers, Newport.

This year’s event is a special one for Brian, Lisa and their family as the charity of choice is Daisy Lodge (Cancer Fund for Children).

Brian and Lisa lost their son, Myles, to cancer. He passed on December 2, 2019, at the age of four years, four months and two days.

Cancer Fund for Children is a registered charity (NI & ROI) operating on an island wide basis with a vision to ensure that no child in Ireland faces cancer alone.

It currently provides vital therapeutic short breaks to children throughout Ireland diagnosed with cancer and their families at Daisy Lodge, in Newcastle, Co. Down.

Daisy Lodge is a nurturing and restorative space that was purpose-built in 2014 to support families at the most vulnerable, difficult, and exhausting time in their lives.

Referrals are made through Crumlin Hospital, Dublin.

Daisy Lodge is a wonderful haven of peace and tranquillity where families receive the right level of support to relax, connect, and meet other families living through a childhood cancer diagnosis.

The demand for short breaks, respite and emotional support is increasing.

Unfortunately, for every family to whom they offer a short break, there are another seven they cannot support due to reaching capacity at their existing centre.

Cancer Fund for Children has launched a fundraising programme to raise €12.5 million to build a much needed second Daisy Lodge in the stunning surroundings of Cong.

This exclusive space will ensure every child in Ireland diagnosed with cancer receives much needed support alongside their families.

In September 2021, former Ireland rugby captain, Rory Best, walked from Co. Down to Co. Mayo and raised over €1,000,000 for this project.

A further €1,000,000 has been raised.

The charity hopes to commence work within the next 12 months.

With the wonderful support of Rory McIlroy, the charity has acquired a 30 acre site in Cong and received full planning permission.
