Said Deputy Ring: “I am really pleased to be able to confirm that just over €641,000 has been allocated to 30 community facilities across Mayo.

“Our community centres are the heart of our towns and villages.

“They are a place for people of all ages to meet up and socialise with friends, old and new. A place where our young people come to socialise and meet up with friends, to take part in activities from soccer to snooker and drama to dance. A place where our elderly people come simply for a chat – sometimes the only chat they will have on any given day.

“So, I’m really pleased to have worked so closely with Minister Heather Humphreys to be in a position to provide funding to so many great organisations across Mayo.”

He added: “Through Our Rural Future we want to support locally led, ground-up projects in local communities across the country. This funding is all about giving a helping hand to our local groups and clubs, which have continued to serve their community.

“I also want to congratulate the successful projects and to thank them for the vital work they do in providing services in their local communities. This funding will deliver high quality capital projects for community facilities that bring great benefit to the local community.”

The announcement has also been welcomed by Minister Dara Calleary, Deputy Alan Dillon, Senator Lisa Chambers and Councillor Ger Deere.
