The new clay courts at Castlebar Tennis Club

Dome set to return to Castlebar Tennis Club after major investment

The eye-catching Dome is set to return to Castlebar Tennis Club tomorrow morning (Saturday).

It follows a major investment at the facility during which four new artificial clay surfaces have been put in place while two synthetic turf courts are due to be installed shortly.

The existing courts needed to be replaced after being laid over a decade ago.

Over the past few weeks, contactors have been on site undertaking the huge task of lifting and removing the old artificial surfaces which were installed when the club moved from Pavilion Road to its present location at the Knockcroghery.

The total investment by the club is in the region of €180,000.

In order to carry out the these major works, the Dome had to be deflated and removed and tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. the Dome will be reinstalled, subject to favourable weather conditions.

This is a truly mammoth task and requires more than 50 volunteers to assist in the operation.
