Progress reported on provision of new Mayo social housing projects

Work is ongoing on the construction of 22 new houses at Lois Na Circa, Milebush, Castlebar.

The scheme, by Mayo County Council, consists of 12 two-bedroom unit, eight three-bedroom units and two four-bedroom units.

It is expected to be completed towards the end of next year.

A further 15 units, including six wheelchair accessible homes, are expected to start in the first quarter of 2024.

A planning application has been lodged with Mayo County Council by the Peter McVerry Trust for eight one-bedroom unit at Ellison Street, Castlebar.

Contracts have been signed in respect of the project which is expected to be ready late next year.

Mayo County Council is advancing plans for a further 25 social housing units at Ellison Street.

It will be a mixture of one and two-bedroom dwellings.

Contractors are scheduled to begin work on site during the second quarter of 2024.

The council is also in the course of planning for four one-bedroom units at Charles Street in Castlebar.

Part 8 approval will be granted by the elected members of Castlebar Municipal District early next year.

Building works are due to start during quarter two of next year and the completion date is around October 2024.

Further good news on the housing front in the county town is the fact 20 new homes at Humbert Way are near completion.

The project consists of 16 three-bedroom houses and four two-bedroom units.

The homes have been funding by Co-operative Housing Ireland.

Elected members of Castlebar Municipal District have also welcomed progress reports in respect of nine new houses in Carnacon and 12 in the village of Ballyvary.

Castlebar Municipal District has revealed that ongoing works are taking place in respect of a number of other housing projects.

Details of the proposals will be revealed when agreements are legally in place.
