Gardaí in Mayo investigating scene of collision

Gardaí in Mayo are investigating the scene of a collision at Castlebar town centre this morning.

The accident occurred at the traffic lights at Newtown between 9.30 and 10 a.m.

A car mounted the footpath at the location and collided with a building. It is possible very heavy rainfall may have been a factor in causing the accident.

An ambulance crew attended the scene and it is understood there were no serious injuries.

It is the second traffic accident to occur at the junction in recent weeks.

Now questions are being raised in regard to consideration being given to the erection of a protective barrier for pedestrians at the busy spot.
