Concerns over work stopping on east Mayo primary care centre

A Mayo TD has expressed concerns over the delay in relation to the new multi-million primary care centre in Ballyhaunis.

Deputy Alan Dillon understands work stopped earlier this year on the site and is currently closed with no construction works being done.

It is understood the construction came to a halt following a procurement dispute with the contractor and his subcontractors.

Deputy Dillon has since requested the primary care services at Community Health Care West to comment on the matter and received the following reply:

It stated: “Construction remains on hold at this site as the landlord agrees costs to completion with the contractor and his subcontractors.

"We are awaiting a date for recommencement and a programme for completion which has been requested.

"It is estimated that there is six to eight months remaining to complete the build once work recommences.

"Unfortunately, we do not have a date for this as year bur remain in continued dialogue to get it.”

Deputy Dillon said the centre was scheduled to be operational in the final quarter of 2021.

He outlined: “The opening of the centre will be a significant development in the delivery of community-based health services for the people of Ballyhaunis and the surrounding areas.

“I have written to the Minster for Health, Stephen Donnelly TD and the HSE requesting immediate support to help resolve the procurement dispute with the contractor and his subcontractors and for any outstanding issues to be addressed so this centre can be opened to the east Mayo community”.

Services that are due to be delivered from the centre include a GP Practice, Public Health Nursing, Dental Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Home Support, Psychology, Dietetics, Podiatry.
