Mast proposal to improve Geesala connectivity

EIRCOM propose to greatly improve phone and internet services in the Geesala area.

The company is looking to erect an 18-metre monopole telecommunications structure at the eir exchange in Gweesalia.

In a planning application to Mayo County Council, the company set out how the village main street and much of the surrounding area only receives 'fringe' 4G coverage.

Current customer demand is not being met and the application structure is needed to address this. There is currently no 5G coverage in the area and it is imperative that local businesses, the school, hotel and residents are supported with cutting edge and high-speed availability through ICT services, it was submitted.

It was also submitted that the structure will not make a significant visual impact on the coastline, replacing an existing 15-metre monopole at the site.
