Litter spoiling Mayo car park despite six bins being in place there

The reckless scattering of litter remains a big problem at a popular lakeside car park in Mayo despite six bins being installed at the location to address the problem.

The situation is a source of great annoyance and frustration for volunteers who work so hard to keep the amenity at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar clean and tidy.

Members of the Castlebar Cleaner Community Group did a litter pick-up at the location today ahead of tonight's vigil in memory the children who died at the Tuam Mother and Baby Home.

They were disappointed to find the level of litter so carelessly thrown around a small car park - and particularly so as there is no excuse for anybody not disposing of their empty bottles and takeaway food packaging in one of the six bins installed there by Mayo County Council.

Castlebar's litter problem will sadly never be addressed when such blatant littering goes on day after day.
