The Connacht squad that competed at last weekend’s FAI Schools Interprovincial tournament.

Mayo involvement in strong showing by Connacht in provincial tournament

FOUR layers from Mayo were involved in 2022 FAI Schools Under 15 Girls’ Interprovincial series last weekend.

The Mayo players in the squad were Aoife Meaney (Sacred Heart School, Westport), Áine Monaghan (St. Brendan’s College, Belmullet), Róise Burke (Ballinrobe Community School), and Kasey Ruane (St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Foxford). Seamus MacEachmharcaigh (Sacred Heart School, Westport) is part of the management team.

Connacht were defeated by Munster 2-0 in the opening game last Friday evening but bounced back superbly to beat Leinster 4-1 on Saturday, with Roise Burke among the scorers for Connacht. Their final game ended in a 1-1 draw with Ulster.

Munster were crowned winners after winning all three of their games, clinching the title with a one-nil win over Leinster.
