The late Winnie Maher was popular personality in Mayo retail circles

THE death has occurred peacefully of Winifred (Winnie) Maher (née McCann), Kilknock, Breaffy, Castlebar, and formerly of Boyle O’Reilly, Drogheda, Co. Louth, Lucan, Co. Dublin, and Leixlip, Co. Kildare.

Winnie was a very well known and popular personality having worked all her life in the retail industry. She worked in several retail outlets in Castlebar and spent many years in Exclusive Fabrics.

She was a real people person and liked nothing more than connecting with the many friends she had made throughout her life. But her greatest pride and joy was her family, to whom she was devoted and who loved her dearly and will forever miss her.

Winnie was loving and devoted wife of Joe, retired sergeant with An Garda Síochána, who worked as PSV Inspector for the Mayo Garda Division. She is also deeply mourned by sons Rowan and Joseph (Jnr.), daughters Siobhán and Fiona, and granddaughter Lucy. She will be sadly missed by her heartbroken husband, sons, daughters, their partners Marta and Daniel, son-in-law Pat Glendon, brother Jackie (Drogheda), sisters Aileen Lynch (Drogheda) and Mary Smith (Drogheda), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and many friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Paddy and Rita McCann, brothers Kevin and Paddy and sister Patricia.

Winnie will repose at the Kilcoyne Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, on Friday evening from 5.30 until 7 p.m. The funeral will arrive at St. Aloysius Church, Breaffy, on Saturday at 1.15 p.m. for funeral Mass at 1.30 p.m. Afterwards, Winnie will be laid to rest in Breaffy Cemetery.
