Ballina Braves shoot the lights out in Donegal

BALLINA Braves made it three from three with an impressive win away to Donegal on Saturday night in the LLR Shannonside Senior Men's League.

The Braves, who hit 15 three-pointers, reached the 90-point mark again, defeating the home team 91-64.

Lithuanian Martynas Punkawas was the top scorer on the night with 32 points, nailing seven of those 15 three-pointers for his side, but not far behind was Ronan McGarrity, who put up another big score finishing the game with 28 points, including four three-pointers.

Elsewhere, Ronan O’Malley finished on 13, a tally that included two three-pointers, with Stephen Popplewell also sinking two three-pointers in what was a fast tempo game.

Ballina went full throttle in the opening quarter, winning it 25-13, but Doengal hit 22 points of their own in the second quarter to leave it a 13-point game at half-time.

The third quarter was close, the home side shading it 17-15, while Ballina won the fourth quarter 28-22, McGarrity with two big three-pointers in that fourth quarter, with Eoin Noone also nailing a three-pointer in what was a good game of basketball.

The Braves are at home this Saturday night as they take on Athlone. Tip-off in the Ballina Community Sport Centre gym is at 7 p.m., and your support would be very much appreciated.
