Residents beside Mayo stadium raise match day issues

RESIDENTS of McHale Road in Castlebar are to be invited to a meeting of the Castlebar Municipal District to raise their concerns about cars being left abandoned on their street on big match days at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park.

Councillor Blackie Gavin said this has been a long running issue for the residents that came to a head during Westport’s recent Connaught semi-final against Moycullen.

“Residents were totally blocked in. A car drove into and parked in someone’s private driveway while another was just abandoned there for the weekend,” he told a district meeting.

“There was a person sick in a house that couldn’t get out to see a doctor. This is not good enough.”

His proposal was seconded by Councillor Michael Kilcoyne who said that this was not fair on the people of McHale Road.
