Enforcement letter over timber sheep pen in north Mayo

A PLANNING enforcement letter has issued in respect of a pen for holding sheep in north Mayo.

Another relates to a road into a field, Councillor Gerry Coyle told a meeting of Mayo County Council, saying he was 'amazed' with staff shortages how they have time to be writing to these people.

The letter about the sheep pen was to a senior citizen, on commonage, 'built with a bit of timber'.

Another person got one where a road was built into a field.

What was going on, he asked.

The councillor was told the local authority don't go looking for problems but where they receive reports, they had a statutory obligation.

Councillor Brendan Mulroy made the point that some people were elderly and a simple phone call to an elected representative might resolve matters rather than sending them out a letter.
