Investment in new Mayo College of Further Education 'wonderful'

A local elected representative has welcomed the funding announced by Minister Simon Harris for a new Mayo College of Further Education and Training in Castlebar.

Councillor Donna Sheridan stated: "As a member of the board of Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB), a staff member of the ETB and a local representative, I am delighted with the announcement of over €20 million in funding for a new state-of-the-art facility.

"I thank Minister Harris who has promoted Further Education and Training since he started in the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.

"Mayo College of Further Education teachers provide fantastic learning opportunities for people across Mayo and beyond.

"This investment will enable the teachers to provide these courses in a new state of the art facility which is badly needed.

"The chief executive of MSLETB, Tom Grady, the director of further education and training, Peter Egan, director of organisational support and design, Pat Howley, director of schools Mary Madden, and Michael Murphy, principal of Mayo College of Further Education and Training, prioritised and worked very hard on this application.

"I thank them for all their work this is a wonderful day for MSLETB.

"Having worked in further education and training with MSLETB and haven’t previously worked in this building, I know how badly needed this investment is and how much it will enhance the learner experience for those who choose to engage in further education and training in Castlebar," she added.
