Toilet facilities on Mayo beaches needed all year round

TOILET facilities on beaches should be available all year round.

Portaloos at beaches in the west Mayo area have been removed recently, and local Councillor Christy Hyland says they need to be reinstated.

Speaking at the council's annual budget meeting, he said increased funding is needed for the facilities.

People are using the beaches 12 months of the year, and if they were promoting tourism, toilet facilities have to be available.

He spoke of a person with a medical condition who found themselves without a facility. People out with their children were having to go in behind walls.

The portaloos need to be put back in place, he implored management.

His area colleague Councillor Brendan Mulroy agreed the season for the portaloos has to be extended.
