Mayo county town mourns passing of Michael McGarry in his 93rd year

The death has occurred of Michael McGarry, Rinshinna, and formerly of Ballynew, Castlebar.

In his 93rd year, he died peacefully yesterday at Cuan Chaitriona Nursing Home, Castlebar.

A much-loved and respected personality, news of his passing has evoked a sense of great loss in the community.

A tribute to him on the condolences page of the death notices website, RIP.ie, described Michael as "a lovely, gentle man and kind neighbour."

Predeceased by his parents Nora and John and his sister Maureen (UK), he is sadly missed by his wife Maureen (née Nealon), daughters Fiona and Emer, son Niall, grandchildren Naoise and Max, son-in-law Michael Horkan, daughter-in-law Sarah Hennessy and Fiona's partner Ronan Burke, sisters Bridie (UK) and Gabrielle (Canada), his sisters-in-law Teresa and Monica, his nieces, cousins, grandnieces, relatives and friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Reposing in Kilcoyne's Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, tomorrow (Tuesday) from 11 a.m., arriving at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, for Requiem Mass at 12 noon.

Afterwards Michael will be laid to rest in the New Cemetery, Newport Road, Castlebar.
