Footage of the old swimming pool in Castlebar, captured in 1966 by the late Dr. Michael Caulfield, is proving very popular on social media.

Nostalgic footage of happy times in Mayo county town

"The best memories ever"

Wonderful footage of the former swimming pool at Marian Row/St. Bridget's Crescent, Castlebar, which was such an integral part of summer life in the town back in the 1960s and 1970s, has been shared for the first time on social media.

It was captured by the late Dr. Michael Caulfield who enjoyed his cine camera and it was shared by his family on the first anniversary of his passing.

The images have evoked a great reaction on social media since being posted on The Connaught Telegraph Facebook page.

"Wonderful memories," stated Connie Cresham.

Said Seamus Beirne: "Learned to swim there. Great memories, Hail, rail or snow, we didn't mind queuing for hours to get in."

Una O'Donnell commented: "This is fabulous to see. Spent every summer of our childhood happily swimming. Happy times."

Paula Scully said: 'Thanks for sharing this. Spent every day of the summer there. Simple times and so much fun."

Denise Magee said it was very thoughtful of the Caulfield family to share the images of their late father's cine camera with the people of Castlebar.

"The best memories ever," stated Cat Siobhán Torc Cróga.
