Deirdre Doherty from Mayo club Charlestown named Player of the Month for November
Deirdre Doherty from Mayo club Charlestown has been honoured with The Croke Park/LGFA Player of the Month award for November.
Confirmation of the award caps a memorable few days for Deirdre, who celebrated her wedding last Friday.
Deirdre and her new husband, Paul McNicholas, made the trip to Dublin this afternoon, along with family members, to accept the award.
Patricia Ruane, joint-manager of the successful Charlestown team, also joined the travelling party.
On the field of play, 31-year-old Deirdre was in scintillating form for the Connacht intermediate club champions Charlestown in November.
In a dramatic provincial final victory over Leitrim opponents, Kiltubrid, Deirdre scored 1-7, including the late free that she won and converted, to secure a nail-biting 1-10 to 0-12 victory.
That win sent Charlestown through to a currentaccount.ie All-Ireland semi-final clash with eventual champions, Longford Slashers.
On the day, Deirdre scored all 10 points for Charlestown, who lost out by 0-10 to 1-11.
Deirdre, who registered 2-6 in October’s county final win, is a former Mayo senior player who has also represented the Republic of Ireland as a soccer player at underage and senior levels.
She was presented with her award this afternoon by Edele O’Reilly, director of sales and marketing, The Croke Park.
