Tributes to former Mayo senior local authority official on his passing

The death has taken place of Patrick Fahey, The Curragh, Castlebar.

The deceased served as county manager of Leitrim from 1995 to 2000, during which he made a major contribution to the development of the county.

Prior to taking up his appointment in Carrick-on-Shannon, he was assistant county manager of Mayo County Council from 1991 to 1994.

A popular and highly-respected senior official, he also filled the role of acting county manager of Mayo from October 1989 to July 1990.

He represented the council at meetings of Castlebar Urban Council for many years and took a keen interest in the town's progress.

Paying tribute to him, John Condon, director of services, Castlebar Municipal District, said he regarded the deceased as a true friend and enjoyed working closely with him for many years.

"He was a pleasure to work with and I considered him a man of immense honour, vision and intelligence.

"He adopted a calm and assured approach to his work and was always pursuing ways of making Mayo a better place in which to work and live.

"I often met him following his retirement and he still retained a big interest on the growth of the county.

"I was very saddened to learn of his passing and I extend my deepest sympathy to Maura, Pauline and John and family. He served both Mayo and Leitrim with tremendous distinction.

He is deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Maura, daughter Pauline, son John, brothers Sylvester and Frank, son-in-law Mel, John’s partner Anabella, sisters-in-law Jacinta and Mary, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends, to sympathy is tendered.

Remains will be reposing at his residence, The Curragh, Castlebar (F23 XA89) on Wednesday from 5 to 6.30 p.m.

Removal from his residence on Thursday at 10.45 a.m. for Funeral Mass at 11.30 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

Patrick will be laid to rest afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
