Petition launched in bid to reopen Mayo hospital support staff's tearoom

Support staff of Mayo University have launched a petition in a bid to get their tearoom reopened.

Members of the public are invited to support the campaign by signing the petition here.

A spokesman for the group stated: "As support staff at Mayo University Hospital, over 130 people of us have worked directly with patients during the many waves of Covid.

"We have been rewarded by management with removal of our communal tea room with no replacement given.

"We went through the consultation process with management - but to no avail.

"It is not unreasonable to expect to have a facility, in which where we can store and heat our food when we eventually get a break.

"We have been told to use to the facilities already available to other staff, which are over capacity.

"As support staff with no fixed abode throughout the hospital, we feel as a whole it is unfair to our colleagues who use those facilities to put them through risk of cross contamination under infection prevention.

"I personally now store my food in my locker and eat my food at room room temperature in a cloak room.

"We are looking for the public’s support on this matter as morale is at an all time low, which will have an knock off effect on the service we provide."
