West Mayo community want stone wall removed during N5 works replaced

A STONE wall removed in Islandeady as part of the new N5 road works must be replaced.

The wall was on the road leading to the church, Councillor Johnny O’Malley explained at a council roads committee meeting.

There was talk about it being replaced with post and rail fencing but the locals want to see a wall put back.

It is a 30-metre stretch, and enhanced the village, and wouldn’t take a lot to build again.

Head of roads Paul Dolan said correspondence was taking place between the community and the national roads design office.

He couldn’t say what is going to be placed there.
