GAA RAFFLE

THERE was no winner of Ballinrobe GAA Club's €16,000 lotto jackpot in the draw which was held in John O’Hare’s Bar on December 19 last. The numbers drawn were 9, 13, 29 and 35. The spot prize winners were Sean O’Connell and Johnny Flannery, while the in-house winner was Anette Moran.

Meawhile, the club recently held a massive Christmas draw raffle in aid of its new pitch development project.

There was no winner of Shrule/Glencorrib GAA Club's €26,500 lotto jackpot in the draw which was held on December 19 last. The numbers drawn were 22, 25, 27 and 31.

The five free lines winner was Martina Fahey, while the €25 winners were Ruth Cawley, Dalgan, Grace Weldon, Navan, Tom Hughes, Mountross, and Damien McDonagh, Brodella.

SANTA DRIVE

On December 17 last, Ballinrobe Town AFC organised a 'Santa Drive', during which Santa Claus visited various locations in Kilmaine, The Neale, Cong and Ballinrobe. The drive was in aid of the Cancer Fund for Children, Daisy Lodge, Cong.

At time of writing, it was estimated that €2,100 had been raised for the Daisy Lodge. People can still donate by visiting www.idonate.ie/event/sponsorabauble.

CONGRATS

Congratulations to Noreen O’Connor, who was the winner of the mega Christmas hamper prize draw, which was held in John O’Hare’s Bar, Cornmarket.

Ballinrobe Rugby Club would like to thank all those who supported the draw.

Afterwards, Declan Hughes was the winner of €566 in the weekly 50/50 draw, which also took place in John O’Hare’s Bar. The club’s next 50/50 draw will take place on Sunday (January 1) in Biggins’ Bar, Ballinrobe.

Meanwhile, the draw for the Connacht Junior Cup preliminary round was conducted recently and Ballinrobe have been pitted against east Galway side Loughrea. The tie will take place in The Green on Sunday, January 8, and your support for the black and white would be appreciated. The winners of this clash will proceed to face Ballinasloe in the last 16.

There was no winner of Garrymore GAA Club's €9,400 lotto jackpot in the draw which was held in Garrymore on December 18 last. The numbers drawn were 1, 13, 21 and 33.

The €50 winners were Rachel O’Malley, Roundfort, Carol Horkan, Farmhill, and Michael Burke, Milltown.

RECENT DEATHS

The death has taken place in Hastings, England, of James McHale, formerly of Kinurry, Killawalla. James was brother of Mary Lally, Kilfaul, Partry, and Bridie Heneghan, Clonee, Partry. He was brother-in-law to John Lally, Kilfaul, Partry, and Michael Heneghan, Clonee, Partry. May his soul rest in peace.

The death has also taken place in Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim, of Paddy McEneaney, husband of Julie (nee O'Malley), Srah, Tourmakeady, and father of Geraldine Staunton, Cappaduff, Tourmakeady. Paddy was father-in-law of Pat Staunton and grandfather to Eoin, Mairtín, Éana and Honor Staunton of Cappaduff, and brother-in-law to Mary McGing, Partry, Eillen O'Malley, Killawalla, and Padraic O'Malley, Srah, Tourmakeady. May his soul rest in peace.

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS

THE LATE JOHN WHELAN

We regret to announce the death of Tom Whelan, in his 98th year, of Barnahowna, Tourmakeady, at Mayo University Hospital, following a short illness.

One of the elderly residents of the parish, Tom was a lovely, gentle, well-travelled man. Having worked in many countries throughout the world, Tom returned to the place of his birth, marrying Eileen Joyce.

Blessed with two daughters and three sons, he was a family man and loved his grandchildren having adored his five children.

He was sadly preceased by his wife Eileen on Christmas Day 2009.

Huge crowds attended his final journey on December 15 last. Mass the following day was celebrated in St. Mary's Church by Fr. John Kenny. Readings given by granddaughter Meadbh Whelan and son Tommy Whelan.

Tom was laid to rest in Churchfield, Tourmakeady. Famly friend Adrian Joyce sung a perfect song, 'Special Hill' - one of Tom's favourites. May his soul rest in peace.

He is survived by daughters Mary and Rita, sons Padraig, Michael and Tommy, daughters-in-law Eileen and Sarah, sister Eileen, brother-in-law Tom, sister-in-law Patricia, grandchildren Oisin, Meadhbh, Stephen, Sean and Elouise, and neighbours and friends.

BONUS NUMBER DRAW

SYMPATHY

Sincere sympahy is offered to Jimmy Heneghan, Castlebar, formerly Gallagh, Partry, on the death in Castlebar of his mother-in-law Mae Gibbons. She was laid to rest on December 20 in Islandeady Cemetery. May her soul rest in peace.

There was no outright winner of the Tourmakeady GAA Club lotto in the draw held on December 17 last. The numbers drawn were 5, 12, 19 and 25.

Proceeds of the week's lotto went to Tourmakeady/Partry Swimming Club, who were unable to do their planned tractor run due to icy on the roads – a nice gesture by the GAA club.

THANK YOU

A big thank you from the Western Alzheimer Foundation in Ballindine for the €1,240 which was presented in memory of the late Frank Philbin of Máire Luke's, Tourmakeady. It was very much appreciated.
