New postal sorting office for north Mayo approved
PLANS by An Post to invest in a new mail delivery service unit in north Mayo have been approved.
A new mail delivery and sorting centre is to be based in a disused commercial building on the Killala Road, at Laghtadawannagh, in Ballina that was previously used as a car showroom. A planning application in respect of the property, which is currently abandoned, has been approved by Mayo County Council.
It will involve an amalgamation of a number of smaller postal sorting offices in the west and will serve 37 postal delivery routes, documentation submitted to the council explained.
In addition, the unit will offer a mail collection service, located in an 'ideal position' in a small retail/industrial park to the north of Ballina.
