South Mayo school extension goes to tender

MAYO Fine Gael TD Alan Dillon has welcomed the news that construction of works at a south Mayo school have gone to tender.

The extension at The Neale National School will include additional accommodation of a modular general classroom, a user assisted WC, a special education needs (SEN) unit, with a hard and soft play area. The plans also include a sensory garden and six additional car parking spaces on the grounds of the school.

Following the news in November that the extension to the school had received initial project approval by the Department of Education, Deputy Dillon said he was delighted to see that works on the plans are progressing swiftly.

He commented: “This is a very popular school in south Mayo and I am delighted to see that the plans are progressing for this extension. The school currently has 130 students and seven teachers while this extension will see it further expand.

“I want to commend principal Bríd Brett and the board of management and wish them every success in the future.”
