Access proposal for Mayo IDA site appealed

PLANS by IDA Ireland to develop road infrastructure at its site for an industrial park in Ballina are before An Bord Pleanála.

The IDA is seeking to construct a new access junction onto the N59 at Quignashee, including the provision of road markings to facilitate a right turn ghost island junction, an internal access road of 340m length, internal junctions, verges, footpaths and site services within the 8.66 hectare site.

Mayo County Council approved their plans but that decision stands appealed to An Bord Pleanála by two parties, one of them being Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

An issue raised with council planners related to an underground drain on the site, a sinkhole, and the need for the drain to be redirected.

TII's submission raised a number of issues, including public safety being endangered due to extra traffic being generated.

An Bord Pleanála is due to issue its ruling by April 24.
