Yellow wind warning in place for Mayo

A STATUS Yellow wind warning is in place for the whole of Ireland.

Met Éireann have warned that westerly winds will be very strong and gusty today, in the west at first, progressing eastwards in the afternoon, and reaching storm force at coastal areas of the northwest.

Possible impacts include downed trees, power outages and travel disruption.

The yellow wind warning will remain in force until 2 a.m. on Friday.

It will be stormy off the coast too, with a marine warning - a Status Orange storm warning - from Slyne Head to Rossan Point to Malin Head, where southwest to west winds will reach storm force 10.

This is valid from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.
