Refrigeration unit to facilitate gas supply from Mayo's Corrib Field

A REFRIGERATION unit to facilitate the ongoing efficient supply of gas from the Corrib Field in north Mayo has been granted planning.

The need for the closed loop propane system connected to the gas process facilities was envisaged when the plant first came on stream.

Documentation submitted to council planners on behalf of Vermilion Exploration & Production Ireland Ltd. set out how the refinery relies on high gas pressure, throttled across a specially design value, to create expansion and a cooling effect.

This is the cooling process that allows the plant to achieve the hydrocarbon dew point specification for sale.

As reservoir pressure declines, the plant will eventually run out of the excess pressure needed.

A refrigeration plant will be required in early 2024 to continue to meet hydrocarbon dew point specification.

This was envisaged during the original design of the terminal facilities and tie-in points were installed during its construction.

The development site is situated in Bellagelly South, Glenamoy.
