Appeal for information following fatal Mayo traffic incident

GARDAÍ are appealing for information following a fatal traffic incident in Mayo last night (Friday).

The gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal single vehicle road traffic incident that occurred in Hoban’s car park in Castlebar last night.

At approximately 11.45 p.m. gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a car in the river near Hoban’s car park.

The driver of the car, a female in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased has been removed to Mayo University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place at a later date.

The scene is currently preserved to allow an examination to be conducted by forensic collision investigators.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Any road users who were in the area at between 10 p.m. and midnight, who may have camera footage (including dash cam) are asked to make it available to gardaí.
