Mayo anger over 'shocking and traumatic attack' on sheep

A 'shocking and traumatic' attack on sheep on a Mayo farm over the weekend has been condemned by a local elected representative.

Councillor Brendan Mulroy appealed to local dog owners to ensure they know where their pets are at any given time of the day and night.

He made his comments after viewing images on social media of the havoc wrecked by dogs on a sheep farm in Carrowholly, Westport.

The discovery was made by a 12-year-old boy.

The images were posted by a local farmer with the following comment attached: "This is what happens when people let the family pet roam freely next to a field of heavy-in-ewe lambs."

The local gardaí have been informed.
