Nine Oscar nominations for Hollywood blockbuster made in Mayo

Hollywood blockbuster The Banshees of Inisherin has received nine Oscar nominations.

The movie, which was largely filmed on Achill Island, has been a huge box-office success since being released last autumn.

The Banshees of Inisherin writer-director McDonagh is nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay among his film's nine nominations.

Stars Condon (Best Supporting Actress), Farrell (Best Actor), Gleeson and Keoghan (both Best Supporting Actor) are all shortlisted for their work on McDonagh's film.

McDonagh is a previous Oscar winner for his short film Six Shooter.

The nominations mark another major boost for Mayo tourism.

The Oscars take place on March 12 in Los Angeles.
