Sacred Heart Westport retain provincial crown

Sacred Heart Westport retained their Connacht PPS senior A title following a 0-10 to 0-4 win over Claregalway College in Swinford Amenity Park earlier today.

They led 0-7 to 0-0 at the break as the Galway side struggled in front of the posts, hitting eight wides before the break. In contrast, all Sacred Heart's effort found their mark through Aoife Staunton (three), Hannah Sheehy (two) and one each from Fionnuala McLaughlin and captain Laura Moran.

Ava Palasz stretched Sacred Heart's lead further before Roisin Hughes ended Claregalway's bad luck in front of the posts in the 44th minute followed by two Maeve Meehan frees.

Any sniff of a comeback was thwarted by Sacred Heart as they finished strongly, Saoirse Byrne and Chloe Chambers splitting the posts late on.
